Zenyatta Mondata

Showing my age, but I clearly remember the release of the album Zenyatta Mondatta by The Police in 1980.  The album title apparently was a made up word which has now been applied to this vibrant classic fabric by Schumacher.  Not sure what the link is there.

Jennifer Dumet ceramics

My new bowl - love it. I have the large one in white.   It is a very thin delicate bowl with a twist. The teeth or tentacles or spikes - whatever you would like to call them - grimace at you saying delicate ? As if.

Flower Quince

I look at wallpaper a lot as part of my work at Porter's Paints.  I've learnt that although you may love a wallpaper pattern, if the scale is not right for the room it won't work.  Here is a great example of scale and form that is just right framing the window with the organic shapes of the branches.  All the lines are curved - the vanity, the spalshback and the upholstery and I love the line up of the stool and the wallpaper on the left.  This iconic paper is Flower Quince by Clarence House.

Oversized bathroom mirror

My business partner has a penchant for large mirrors ( and I am not saying that I don't !) so we frequently include oversized mirrors in our designs for clients, on the floor and occasionally behind console tables.  We have not yet done this look which I love.  Obviously you would only do it if you had lovely shiny under sink plumbing (no plastic) and I am assuming the mirror is in two pieces with the lower part cut around the vanity.  I don't know, it could be once piece that is predrilled by the glazier ? . . .

A touch of green from Moooi

Here is a subtle little splash of green for St. Patricks day.   Marcel Wanders designed a collection of ceramic vases for Moooi.  In typical Moooi fashion classics are reinterpreted.  The vases are produced and decorated at 'Royal Delft', a Dutch company dating back to 1653 and the original producer of the beautiful Delft Blue ceramics.

Pendant for Jane

The last light I posted here from Tokens of Living was mistaken for a spray painted Christmas ornament and went a bit viral on Pinterest in December.   This post is for my friend Jane.  Jane has impeccable design style and taste so its always a bit challenging when she says 'any ideas for my hall pendants ??'  Had to be neutral preferably with a bit of silver shine and interest, a bit of a feature but not a screaming focal point.  Her walls are soft grey.  Hope she likes it.

Inviting guest bedroom

Lots that is clever about this serene guest bedroom.  The shared central bedside table saves on space but what pulls the scheme all together is the size and layout of the six prints over the beds.  Plenty of reading material in the bottom of the bedside too.

Luxaflex event at La Croix, Potts Point

I was the guest of Luxaflex recently at a lovely event at La Croix, Potts Point giving media and bloggers an overview of the extensive Luxaflex range and a preview of the new Luxaflex ipad app.  It is always fun to meet people who are passionate about their product and with deep deep knowledge about the textiles and technology we need to to both make the most of the sunshine and block it out when required.  Pearls of wisdom that I came away with were that alot of Luxaflex specialist fabric is made here in Australia as we know what we need to withstand our sun, Luxaflex collect and recycle old blinds, recycling the fibres into new fabric, they can now do widths of 6m (!) in some exterior products (great for those gap haters).  I love the Evo range of contemporary awnings and the very architectural exteriors louvres shown below.  La Croix was a delight also - designed by Iain Halliday in a palette of soft grey tumbled stone, marble and buttery grey leather cushions.  A perfect neutral backdrop for the shop's mirrors and decorative items scattered amongst the cafe tables.  Thanks again to Luxaflex for inviting me along.

On Air by Penny Farthing Design House

This is the ideal gift for a busy mother - I would love one myself.  Imagine firing up your On Air sign when you are talking on the phone to discourage your offspring from interrupting you.  Or for outside a study when you really need to finish something when working from home.  Or, of less benefit, for your husband to light up while pretending to be on a conference call but really watching the cricket.  Designed by Penny Farthing Design House.

Upstairs Downstairs

Sometimes I suffer from interiors overload because my brain sees colours and fabrics and mouldings on walls - even when I am relaxing and watching TV.  I do love period dramas as much for the costumes and sets as the plot line.  Tune in to Upstairs Downstairs on the ABC, set in 1936 just before the war, there is lots to inspire.

Typewriter Cushion Publisher Textiles

I have my eye on this cushion for a client's study ( possibly ) it has black silk piping and a typography print back all by Publisher Textiles.  The words on the back are from a book - possibly entitled How to Live Long, the name of the fabric.

Gula by Ximena Escobar

Stunning 'Gula' wallpaper/mural designed by for Colombian designer and illustrator Ximena Escobar for Wallpaper Republic.  Love that the design gives the impression that there is a picture rail and the detail is amazing.  Would love to use this to funk up granny's sitting room.

Offspring - Nina's wall

Since the first series of Offspring I have been searching and searching for the source of the pressed metal wall in Nina Proudman's apartment.  Finally, this week, others on the same quest have bubbled to the surface of google and I now know, thanks to In the Night Sky that the panel is called Shield and is from Pressed Tin Panels in Bathurst.  Thank goodness as it was really starting to bother me.

More from Ochre

I should have known to look at Ochre's website before posting below.  The Arctic Pear also comes as a wall light and Ochre have even more beauty and brilliance to launch at 100% design in London in September.
