Dining room inspiration

My house has a dining room with a corner fireplace like this one as many older houses do in Australia. It is still the natural original wood and I would consider painting it - but I feel that is quite a big decision though as it would never be the same again if I did. I also like the panelling idea. Food for thought and indecision !

I've just painted my timber kitchen white, and I'm only sorry I didn't do it sooner. It's made the room much brighter and fresher, and I'm loving it to death! You could coat the timber with some clear matt sealer before you painted, which would stop the paint from sinking into the grain. That way, if you decided to later strip the paint off, it would be much easier. Good luck with the decision, and I'll make sure I pop in often to see what you decide to do. K xx

OOh, that painted panelling looks fab but I understand why it is such a hard decision.
PS Would love to meet up with you when you come to Ireland, would you like to meet up with the kids or on our own. My 2 are aged 7 and 5.

I understand the hesitation of painting natural wood, it's not easy to go back.

I do like white wood framed fire places and the wainscoting is an added bonus.
